☕ Subscriptions for Coffee Shops, GPT-3 Tool for Songwriters, Twitter Threads as a Service 🧵

Brainstorms Issue #27

Brainstorms Issue #27

This week, we’re going back to the fan-favorite format of three short-form ideas.

As always, any feedback is appreciated. Feel free to reply to this email with any thoughts or give me a rating at the bottom of the email.

With that said, let’s get into it!

Idea #1: Subscriptions for Coffee Shops

The Backstory

As someone who doesn’t drink coffee, I find the behaviors of those who do fascinating.

Let’s take my girlfriend for example. Every day, she gets a cup of coffee from one of the 3 local shops near her house. Sometimes, she’ll also get a pastry or snack.

I recently asked her, “how do you choose which place you go each day?”

She responded, “I don’t know, it’s whatever I’m feeling I guess.”

That’s when I had an idea...

The Opportunity

I believe coffee shops would make significantly more money if they offered monthly subscriptions to their customers.

Someone should create a tool that allows coffee shops to easily set up and offer monthly subscriptions to their customers.

The subscription could offer unlimited coffee for $X or a discount on each purchase of coffee.

The assumption here is that despite giving a discount on coffee, shops would make more money by increasing customer retention and sales via other items (pastries, snacks, sandwiches, etc…).

Bonus idea: I’ve always thought doing ClassPass for coffee shops was a good idea as well. This would allow people to visit multiple shops for a fixed fee and give shop owners a new way to attract customers.

Current Solutions

I couldn't find any direct solution to this problem.

Idea #2: GPT-3 Tool for Songwriters

The Backstory

Believe it or not, I’m actually something of a musician. In high school and college, I used to write songs and play for fun.

One of the most difficult things I faced was finishing the lyrics to the songs I’d write. I’d have notebooks filled with half-written pieces.

Coming up with a rhyming scheme, verses, choruses, and rhythm patterns is uniquely challenging.

The Opportunity

I’d love to see someone apply GTP-3 technology to this problem. If you’re unfamiliar with GPT-3, I did a write-up a couple of months ago going into more detail.

I envision the tool that lets me input my lyrics and put some parameters around style, tone, length, and genre. From there, it would spit out some ideas/suggestions on what direction to take the song.

☝️ That alone would be immensely helpful.

I love this idea because it not only solves a real problem but it’s also hyper-focused on a niche. This makes getting customers so much easier.

Current Solutions

  • Magenta: Magenta is an open-source suite of tools using machine learning that helps musicians create music.

  • Audoir: Audoir uses AI to help songwriters create the next hit.

  • Keywords to Lyrics: This tool allows you to input a few keywords/phrases and output lyrics. There a number of “lyric generators” out there like this. But, as far as I know, none of them are utilizing GTP-3.

Idea #3: Twitter Threads as a Service

The Backstory

I’ve talked about this in previous issues, but I’ll say it again - I’m incredibly bullish on Twitter. It’s hands down the best platform to build an audience on if you're in the startup/entrepreneurial space.

Unfortunately, growing an audience is challenging. That’s why there are several tools that make a small fortune helping people solve this problem.

While there are many tools to aid Twitter users, there’s one problem that I haven’t found a good solution for yet... easily creating Twitter Threads.

The Opportunity

If someone can create a good solution for creating Twitter threads, there’s money to be made.

One of my friends has hired a freelancer to help write Twitter threads, and I am considering doing the same.

Anything from a manual solution like an agency/service that just focuses on Twitter threads, to a fully automated solution that converts blog posts to Twitter threads could work.

The most important thing is that the Twitter thread is well-written and punchy. Those are the threads that drive the most engagement.

Current Solutions

  • Chirr App: This is a tool that converts long-form text to Twitter threads.

  • Freelancers

Thanks for reading - now get out there and build it!

Catch ya next week,

Keevin ✌
